The Southeast Missouri State track and field program had an impressive weekend at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Southeast's men won the two-day meet with 196 points, edging Miami (Ohio) by seven points and host Cincinnati by 11.5. Southeast's women placed fifth with 68.5 points. Twelve teams competed in each division.

Kevin Farley led Southeast's men as he captured the shot put, discus and hammer throw. He launched the shot put an outdoor career-best 57 feet, 3 1/2 inches.

Blake Carter, a second-team All-American during the indoor season, picked up where he left off in his 2013 outdoor debut. He won the long jump with a distance of 24-2 1/4 that tied his season best from the 2012 outdoor campaign.

Other event winners for Southeast's men were Kendrick Farr in the 100 meters and Brian Grote in the javelin. Grote's career-best 187-11 was nearly 10 feet better than his previous high set the previous weekend.

The meet marked the outdoor debut of Reggie Miller Jr., the Ohio Valley Conference male field athlete of the year from the indoor season. Miller posted second-place finishes in the high jump and triple jump.

On the women's side, Courtney Gapelu won the shot put for the Redhawks' lone event victory.

Southeast athletes are back in action this weekend when the university hosts the 32nd annual Joey Haines Invitational at the Abe Stuber Complex.

There will be one event Friday, the hammer throw at 3:30 p.m. The rest of the meet will be Saturday, with field events starting at 11 a.m., followed by running events at 11:30.
