The Notre Dame boys basketball team converted its free throws down the stretch Monday in the first round of the SEMO Conference tournament.

The Bulldogs drilled six of their seven attempts in the closing minute to knock off Charleston 52-50. They advanced to face Sikeston in Thursday's 7 p.m. semifinal.

Austin Greer scored 13, Jacob Tolbert added 12 and John Unterreiner chipped in 10 for the Bulldogs.

Notre Dame finished 17 of 19 (89 percent) from the free-throw line.

In other first-round action, Sikeston cruised past Central 74-30.

The Tigers will face Charleston today at 7:30 p.m.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Delta junior Taylor Smith started bombing away in the second quarter.

After being limited to three points in the first quarter, she struck for 11 points in the second quarter and 13 in the third to push the Bobcats into the semifinals with their 61-26 victory over Sikeston.

Smith finished with 35 points, including going 9 of 10 from the free-throw line.

Jodi Menz added 18 points in Delta's win.

Junior Stephanie Essner went on a scoring spree to help Scott City post a victory over Oran, 52-43.

Essner finished with a game-high 22 points.

Katie Hogan added 16 points for the Rams (2-2), who led by 10 points at the end of the second and third quarters.

Cheyanne King scored 16 points and Claire Seyer finished with 12 for Oran.
