Notre Dame, Cape Girardeau Central and Jackson were among the winners Thursday in the openers of the eight-team Notre Dame Soccerfest.

Notre Dame opened its season with a 1-0 victory over Marion (Ill.). Adam Prasanphanich scored the goal on a free kick midway in the first half. Travis Siebert had the shutout.

Central improved to 2-0 with a 2-0 win over Poplar Bluff. Heath Orr and Grant Hengst got the goals while Josh Fee and Calen Wills contributed assists. Aaron Meystedt had the shutout.

Jackson (1-1) slipped past St. Pius 2-1 in overtime, the game-winning goal coming from Stuart Knowlan with an assist by Mitchell Casteel late in the first 10-minute, sudden-victory period. Tyler Beussink got Jackson's first goal, with Knowlan assisting.

The other first-round match saw Carbondale (Ill.) roll past Sikeston 5-0.

Today's semifinals pit Central against Carbondale at 5:30 p.m. and Notre Dame against Jackson at 7:30.SOFTBALL

Notre Dame SoftballfestNotre Dame moved on to today's semifinal game with a 14-1, five-inning rout of Sikeston.

Lindsay Reinagel pitched three innings for the win, with Ramona Blankenship adding two scoreless innings. Stacey Seyer was 3-for-4 with three runs and Whitney Ostendorf added three hits and two RBIs.

Notre Dame (5-0) will face Park Hills Central in today's semifinals at 5:30 p.m.

In other action at Softballfest, Park Hills cruised past Ste. Genevieve 10-1. Park Hills got a complete-game victory from Kristen Kennedy.

Tournament action will begin at 4 p.m. today with Notre Dame of St. Louis taking on St. Pius in the first semifinal.

Central 2, Kelly 1

KELLY, Mo. -- With the help of a two-run rally in the top of the seventh, Central (4-4) climbed to .500.

Megan McDonald (3-4) made her seventh start of the season and allowed one unearned run on three hits.

Alex Wieser had a pair of doubles, including one in the seventh to tie the game.

Central plays Ursaline Academy on Saturday at Southeast Missouri State's softball field.

Volleyball

Notre Dame Volleyballfest

Notre Dame opened its season with three victories in its own eight-team tournament as it won Pool A and advanced to Saturday's gold bracket semifinals.

The Bulldogs slipped past St. Vincent 17-15, 17-16, then defeated Dexter 15-11, 15-8 and Caruthersville 15-5, 15-9.

Erin Pfau had 18 kills and nine digs for the Lady Bulldogs. Summer McCauley dished out 81 assists to go along with 20 service points and eight aces. Katie Beussink had 13 kills and 15 blocks while Laura Brown added eight kills and 11 digs.

Notre Dame's JV also won its pool to move into the gold bracket semifinals.

Meadow Heights 18-15PATTON, Mo. -- Meadow Heights scored its first victory of the season.

Jill Hahs had six kills and 20 digs to lead the way for Meadow Heights (1-1). Heather Thele added four aces and 14 digs, while Chelsea Bollinger had six kills and 10 digs. Nicole Tropf had 12 kills, eight digs and a block for Advance (0-1).

Charleston 15-3

Oran 17-15

ORAN, Mo. -- The Eagles opened their season with a sweep.

Oran's Jessica Prino recorded 17 service points, 15 assists and four aces. Teammate Amber Seyer finished with nine kills and two blocks.

Oran won the JV match 15-3, 15-2.

Perryville 2-9

Ste. Genevieve 15-15

STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- Plagued by inexperience, Perryville dropped its first road match of the season.

Perryville (1-1) was led by Stephanie Landholt, who had four service points, two kills, four digs and three blocks. Lisa Pecaut added three points and seven assists.

Woodland Tournament

WOODLAND, Mo. -- Leopold (2-0) advanced to the championship match with a 15-4, 15-8 victory over Greenville.

Leopold was led by Holly Jansen who had 10 kills and seven blocks. Becky Seiler added 10 assists.

In other matches Chaffee defeated Oak Ridge 15-9, 15-6; Jackson JV defeated Woodland 15-7, 15-11; and Bell City defeated Zalma 15-5, 15-9.

Bell City will meet Leopold in the first place match today at 8 p.m.; Greenville will face Zalma for third at 6:30;, and Oak Ridge will take on Jackson JV in the consolation championship at 5.

Bernie JV Tournament

BERNIE, Mo. -- At the Bernie JV Tournament, Central dropped three matches on the first day.

Central did not win a game in any of the three matches, falling to Bloomfield (15-8, 15-6), Bernie (15-13, 15-12) and Scott City (15-9, 15-11).

Girls' tennis

Farmington 5, Jackson 4FARMINGTON, Mo. -- Despite victories from their No. 1 and No. 2 singles, Jackson (2-2) fell in a tight match

Katie Domain and Kelly Mitchell each won 8-4 on the singles side. Kim Anderson also won in the No. 5 singles match. The doubles team of Kim Anderson and Carrie Golden won 8-4.

Jackson's JV squad won 7-4.
