ST.LOUIS -- Notre Dame's softball team (8-2) won its opening round game in the Incarnate Word Tournament, beating St. Joseph Academy 3-2 Friday.

Whitney Ostendorf broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth inning with a two-run single.

Lindsay Reinagel (7-2) pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits.

Notre Dame will play the winner of Rosary and Duchesne at 8 a.m. today.

Kelly 8, Egyptian 1

BENTON, Mo.--Dana Essner (3-1) shut down Egyptian (Ill.) on only three hits. She struck out six , walked none and allowed one unearned run.

Ashley Kern was the offensive star for Kelly (5-1), going 2-3 with three RBIs. Jennifer Burnett and Sara Essner also had two hits apiece.

Kelly defeated Jackson Thursday 2-0, with Dana Essner picking up the victory.

Volleyball

MARBLE HILL, Mo.-- Holly Jordan led the way for New Salem as they improved to 2-1 with a pair of three set wins.

New Salem beat Coernerstone 15-11, 12-15, 15-5 and West Point 14-16, 15-8, 15-6.

Jordan had 25 kills in the two matches. Laura Poole added eight assists on the night, and Sarah Green put up seven aces against Cornerstone.

Soccer

QUINCY NOTRE DAME 2 CENTRAL 1

ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- opened the Francis Howell Tournament with a loss. The Tigers were defeated in a shootout following eighty minutes of regulation play and 20 minutes of sudden death overtime.

Heath Orr put Cape on top at the 27-minute mark, Whit Lynn providing the assist. Quincy battled back and scored 57 minutes into the game, and the score stayed tied until shootouts. Quincy outshot Cape in shootouts 4-3.

Central plays Francis Howell today at 10 a.m.

Football

STE. GENEVIEVE 38, PERRYVILLE 0

ST. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- Ste. Genevieve got a handle on Perryville (0-2) early, putting the game in the books by halftime. Derrick Wolk scored twice for St. Genevive on touchdown runs and Brad Arnold threw three touchdown passes. Matt Vader had two touchdown catches.
