Central sophomore Jennifer Pancoast blew away the competition with a time of 19 minutes and 14 seconds to capture first place at Thursday's SEMO Conference Cross Country Championships held at Notre Dame.
Central placed first overall in the boys' and girls' varsity competitions. Also in the top five for the girls were Cassie Kipper (third) and Holly Shaffer (fifth). Mike Gerber was the top finisher for the boys as he placed fourth. Trever Duncan was fifth.
Jackson placed third and second, respectively, in the boys and girls competitions. The Lady Indians' Rachel Lowes (second) and Ashley Meyr (fourth) placed in the top five.
Host Notre Dame placed fifth and fourth, respectively, in the boys and girls meets. This was the first SEMO Conference Championships held at Notre Dame.
Volleyball
LEOPOLD 15-15, MEADOW HEIGHTS 11-2
The Wildcats, No. 2 in the SEMO Top 10, continued to roll and posted their 25th victory of the season and clinched the Mississippi Valley Conference title.
Leopold (25-2-1) was led in kills by Holly Jansen with 13. Courtney Wesbecher and Tasha Thele added five each. Wendy Vandeven recorded 19 assists.
Meadow Heights (12-10-1) got 11 kills from Chelsea Bollinger. Jill Hahs added three kills and two service aces.
Leopold's JV (21-1-2) also clinched the conference title with a 15-5, 15-7 victory.
Central 15-5, Oran 5-0
Central played a strong match and picked up its third win of the year.
The Tigers (3-17) received 11 kills from Anna Brisso and seven from Courtney Edge. Chelsey Oliver served nine points and Andrea Niswonger recorded 11 assists.
Oran fell to 9-14.
Oran's JV won 15-6, 18-16.
Jackson 8-15-15, Perryville 15-2-9
Jackson rebounded from a first-game loss to win at home.
The Indians (19-9-2) received nine kills, 13 blocks and five service aces from Jenna Leet. Jessie Koeper came through with six kills, five assists and eight aces. Molly Hartmann had six kills, Courtney Vance recorded seven assists and Laura Johnson added three aces.
Casey Moll led Perryville (6-20-3) with eight kills, 14 digs and five service points. Brittany Prevallet served six points and had six digs; Lisa Pecaut added 14 assists, three kills and four points; and Alissa Moeckel recorded 16 digs.
Jackson also won JV and freshmen matches, 15-8, 15-4 and 6-15, 15-8, 15-3.
Advance 16-15, Scott City 14-5
In a battle of two strong area squads, Advance won a close first game and won on the road.
The Hornets (21-7-1) got seven kills, three blocks and two digs from Dana Williams. Nicole Tropf served 11 aces, including eight in the second game, and Jennifer Schrader added two digs.
The Rams (20-6-2) received five kills from Shana Wadlington. Kacie Cartwright added four kills and two service aces.
Advance's JV prevailed 6-15, 15-13, 16-14
Portageville 16-15, Chaffee 14-12
Chaffee dropped a tight two-game decision at home.
The Red Devils (7-15) were led by Jennifer Vandeven with eight kills. Natalie Townsend had 12 digs and three service aces.
Chaffee also lost the JV match 15-6, 15-12.
Clearwater 15-15, Woodland 0-1
Woodland remained winless with a road loss.
Andrea Myers had three digs for the Cardinals (0-19).
Woodland's JV won 11-15, 15-9, 15-9.

DELTA WINS TWO TITLES
Delta's seventh and eighth grade girls both beat Oran to wrap up Scott-Mississippi Conference titles with 12-0 records.
The seventh grade won 30-10 and the eighth grade prevailed 48-22.
