STE. GENEVIEVE -- Perryville demonstrated both pitching and hitting in its season debut Monday, defeating Ste. Genevieve 11-0 in five innings in high school baseball action.

Matt Meyr held the Dragons to a lone third-inning single in going the distance. He struck out seven and walked two.

Meyr also enjoyed a perfect day at the plate, hitting a solo home run in going 2-for-2.

Jason Hecht added two hits and three RBI and Todd French also collected two hits in Perryville's 11-hit attack.

The Pirates went on top 2-0 with single runs in the first and second innings. Perryville broke the game open with an eight-run third.

The Pirates open Jefferson County Conference play Thursday at Festus.

Oak Ridge 9, Delta 5

OAK RIDGE -- Blue Jay third baseman Mike McCall hit a bases- loaded triple in the fourth inning to give Oak Ridge a nine-run lead over Delta on the way to a season-opening win Monday.

Oak Ridge scored three runs in the first, second and fourth innings to take a commanding 9-0 lead. Delta battled back with five runs in the next two innings before the game was called due to darkness in the fifth inning.

Brian Glueck pitched all five innings for Oak Ridge to earn the win. Glueck struck out 11 and allowed only two hits. But he struggled with his control, walking 10.

"Brian pitched pretty well but he'll have to watch his control," Oak Ridge coach Chris Winkler said. "He pitched around some people and got the outs when he needed them."

Blue Jay catcher Matt Pruesser went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Matt Mangels added two hits and three RBIs and Aric Curry went 2-for-2 as Oak Ridge collected 12 hits.

"We actually hit the ball well," said a pleasantly surprised Winkler. "I thought hitting would be our weakness this year."

Justin Vandeven and Lucas Green had the only two hits, both doubles, for Delta. Garret DeBrock pitched the first two innings for the loss.
