Scott City's football team used a second half surge to cut Valle Catholic's lead to 16-14 in the fourth quarter Friday night at Scott City, but the Rams came up short for their third straight loss, a 23-14 setback.

The Rams (1-3) trailed 9-0 at halftime before the offense began to click in the second half.

After cutting the lead to 16-14, Scott City kicked an onside kick but touched the ball just before it went the required 10 yards, giving Valle good field position. Valle scored a couple of plays later to finish off the Rams.

"We just clicked a little too late," Rams coach Jackie Johnson said.

Scott City will visit rival Chaffee on Friday.

VOLLEYBALL

New Salem goes 2-0

New Salem Baptist won two matches at home to improve to 10-7-1.

New Salem swept West Point Christian 25-17, 25-18 in its first match. Laura Poole led New Salem with 11 service points in the match, including five aces. Sarah Green added nine service points and seven aces.

In its second match New Salem needed three games to beat Peoples Christian Academy. Mary Beth Poole had 15 digs for New Salem and Laura Poole had 19 service points. Holly Jordan added 13 kills, six digs and six service points for New Salem.

Oran 20-25-25, Woodland 25-22-20

Oran needed three games to pick up its fourth win.

The Eagles improved to 4-8-2. Carmen Duncan led Oran with 12 service points, five aces, four kills and three blocks. Tori St. Cin added seven service points and 16 digs and Amber Seyer had five kills.

For Woodland, Jenna Greer had five kills.
