MURRAY, Ky. -- Southeast Missouri State University's golf team fended off a final-round charge from Louisville Saturday, eking out a 1-shot victory in the 11-team Murray State Invitational.

With rounds of 288, 288 and 295, Southeast's total of 871 bettered Louisville, which trailed the Indians by eight strokes entering the final round before firing a day-best 288.

Eastern Kentucky (881) placed third, followed by St. Louis (883) and Murray State (893).

Southeast's Jason Owen won the invitational with a 2-under 211 (68-72-71) on the par-71 layout. Brad Faulkner of Louisville was well behind at 4-over 217 (73-73-71).

Ryan Smith shot 219 (75-71-71) and tied for fifth and Jake Saladin shot 222 (73-72-77) and tied for 10th.

Derek Rahlmann tied for 25th with a 227 (72-79-76), Brian Johnson tied for 29th at 228 (75-79-74) and former Cape Girardeau Central High golfer Dane McLaird tied for 34th with a 230 (80-74-76).
