SE indoor track team opens Sunday

Southeast Missouri State University opens its indoor track and field season Sunday at the Arkansas State Invitational. Both the men's and women's teams will compete.

"The athletes have been looking forward to competition since we began our fall training in September," Southeast coach Joey Haines said. "There will be a lot of top Division I programs at this first meet, and it will give us a chance to evaluate and see where we need to go from there."

"Winning the OVC championship is our main goal. This meet is the first step in getting our athletes there."

Haines has high expectations for senior Jay Heddell in the shot put and junior Heather Jenkins in the shot and weight competitions at Sunday's meet.

Sunday's competition will mark Southeast's only action this month. The next meet is Jan. 16 at Missouri.
