SIKESTON, Mo. -- The Notre Dame boys basketball team, last year's Class 4 state runner-up, came home from the SEMO Conference tournament with its second consecutive lopsided loss.

Not that it's an acceptable showing for the tournament's top seed, but it is understandable.

The Bulldogs, playing without starters Austin Greer and Ryan Willen for the third straight game, fell 78-45 to district rival Sikeston on Friday night.

"We just couldn't defend them, especially inside," Notre Dame coach Paul Hale said. "Sikeston has a good team with a lot of fine talent."

The Bulldogs (1-2) will get another crack at Sikeston on Friday in Cape Girardeau, but Hale doesn't expect Division I recruit Willen (ankle stress fracture) to be back and lists Greer (back) as questionable.

One night after sitting in a 30-point halftime deficit, Notre Dame fell behind 33-15 after one period against Sikeston.

"After the first quarter, we battled a little better," Hale said.

Logan Glueck was the lone Notre Dame player in double figures, scoring 15 points.

"He scored pretty well inside," Hale said. "We just couldn't get much started elsewhere."

Sikeston was led by 6-foot-6 junior Michael Porter, who scored 25 points. Matt Ritch added 16.
