Jackson's American Legion team allowed three runs in the bottom of the ninth to fall 4-3 to Sikeston in the opening game of a doubleheader at Sikeston on Tuesday.

Jackson, which has dropped four straight, fell to 10-9 overall and 1-2 in district play. Results from the second game were not available at press time.

Jordan Kimball, Sikeston's starting pitcher, knocked in the winning runs with a two-out, two-run single in the ninth. Sikeston was aided in the inning by a walk and a pair of wild pitches.

Jason Meystedt took the loss after pitching 8 2/3 innings. Meystedt struck out seven and allowed eight hits.

Chad Minson and Rex Meyr had RBIs for Jackson, as Kimball and Ben Walters stymied Jackson's offense.

Kimball pitched seven innings, allowing only two hits along with five strikeouts. Walters allowed just one hit for the win in two innings of relief.

Jackson Senior Babe Ruth splits doubleheader

Jackson's Senior Babe Ruth baseball team split a doubleheader at Dexter.

Jackson (17-5) won the opener 5-4. Brett Groening pitched 5 2/3 innings for the win. Brandon Stearns pitched the final 1 2/3 innings for the save. Trevor Thompson and Sam Lincoln had two hits apiece.

In the second game, Dexter won 13-7. Four errors in the first two innings helped Dexter stake a big lead which Jackson could not overcome.

Other events

* The Cape Girardeau American Legion junior team swept a doubleheader at home against district-foe Dunklin County on Tuesday. Cape won the opening game 11-1 in five innings and the second game 12-2 in five innings. Cape improved to 13-6 and 6-0 in district play.

Tyler Propst was the winner in the first game, striking out six and allowing just one hit. Joe Uhls and Luke Moll had two RBIs apiece.

In the second game, Kory Kitchen struck out six in five innings for the win. Brooks Osburn had three hits, and Abe Dirnberger and Chris Brotherton had two hits apiece.

* The Jackson American Legion junior team dropped a pair of games to Sikeston. Sikeston won the opener 10-8 and the second game 7-4. Jackson fell to 12-9 and 2-3 in district play.

Ryan Cheney, Austin Neal and Caleb Guilliams had two hits apiece for Jackson in the opener. Cheney and Guilliams had three RBIs apiece.

In the second game Zach Gendron and Guilliams had two hits apiece. Gendron had two RBIs.
