The Southeast Missouri State softball team saw its chances of making the Ohio Valley Conference tournament take a serious hit Sunday.

Southeast was swept in a doubleheader at Austin Peay, losing 6-0 and 6-5. The squads conclude their three-game series in Clarksville, Tenn., at noon today.

The Redhawks (15-29, 6-15) fell to 10th-place in the 12-team OVC while the Governors (17-24) moved into ninth place. Morehead State is eighth at 9-11.

The top eight finishers qualify for the conference tournament. Southeast has four league games remaining.

Southeast managed just three hits in Sunday's opener, two by Xia Wilson.

Taylor Cowan suffered the loss, allowing four first-inning runs -- three earned -- and three hits without recording an out.

Hannah Clemons came on and finished up, allowing two runs on four hits in six innings.

The Redhawks had 10 hits in the nightcap, which saw them lead 5-4 after three innings before being shut out the rest of the way. Austin Peay went ahead for good with a two-run fourth inning.

Alexis Anderson, who had a hit in the opener, went 3 for 4 in the nightcap and raised her average to .419. She is batting .522 in conference play.

Simone Patterson had two hits, including her team-leading eighth home run of the season. Wilson added two more hits, while Patterson and Cowan each had two RBIs.

Cowan again took the loss in the circle, this time working all six innings. She allowed seven hits and six runs, just two earned.
