Southeast Missouri State volleyball player Taylor Masterson was named the Ohio Valley Conference offensive player of the week Monday.

Masterson, a redshirt freshman, is the first Southeast player to earn that distinction since Emily Hughes garnered the honor in 2009.

The St. Louis native tallied a career-high 12 kills twice last week, helping the Redhawks win the Butler Invitational. Masterson earned all-tournament honors.

Masterson finished the week with 39 kills and hit an impressive .344. She added 13 blocks.

Southeast (8-6) opens OVC play Friday at Eastern Illinois.

Cross country

Southeast's men are 15th in this week's Midwest Region rankings. 

The Redhawks broke into the rankings after capturing the title at the SIU Edwardsville Cross Country Challenge on Friday. The Redhawks have finished first in both their meets this season.

Southeast returns to action Saturday at the SIU Saluki Invitational in Carbondale, Ill.
