Southeast Missouri State guard Marcus Wallace claimed the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week award in men's basketball for the second consecutive week after a pair of strong games.

He was a perfect 4-for-4 shooting -- three from behind the 3-point arc -- coming off the bench for 14 points against UT-Martin. He scored 17 points against Murray State, including 6-of-6 shooting at the free-throw line.

Over the two games, Wallace connected on 9-of-11 shots from the field (81.8 percent) -- 4 of 5 from behind the arc -- and 9-of-10 free throws (90 percent). He has reached double-figure scoring in his last three games.

Fortner honored

Redhawks senior outfielder Kayla Fortner was selected the OVC Player of the Week after belting a home run in each of Southeast's first four games of the softball season in the Mardi Gras Classic in Monroe, Louisiana, and finishing the five-game tournament with 13 RBIs.

Fortner, from Cedar Hills, Missouri, hit home runs in losses to Alabama State, Louisiana-Monroe and Alabama State before belting a grand slam in an 11-7 win over Grambling State.

She was the first Redhawk to hit home runs in four consecutive games since Shelby Kuryllo in 2011.

She scored six runs, had a .500 on-base percentage and posted a 1.400 slugging percentage in the tournament.

Southeast next plays in the Memphis Blues City Classic on Saturday and Sunday.
