Chaffee's Jared Walker's first two at-bats against Scott City's Landon Robert didn't go exactly as planned Thursday.

Walker was hit by a pitch the first time he saw Robert then struck out the second. He made the most of his opportunity the third time he saw Scott City's pitcher.

"He had threw me a curveball first pitch the first two times up," Walker said. "I was expecting that, and that's what I got. He kind of left it hanging on the outside corner. That's where I like them."

Walker smacked the pitch to right-center field to plate two runs and help the Red Devils defeat their rivals 5-1.

"We kind of got off to a shaky start hitting at first," Walker said. "We weren't really thinking. We were just out there wanting to get that big hit."

Walker added another hit in the sixth inning and came around to score on Trevor Cannon's double.

Walker also earned the win on the mound in the Chaffee's 16-0 win over Bell City on Friday.

The Red Devils, who played in the Class 2 District 3 title game last season, have gotten off to a terrific start. They won 13 of their first 14 games to open the season.
