~ The Redhawks won 17 events at the Joey Haines Invitational

The Southeast Missouri State track and field team took home both the men's and women's titles along with 17 first-place finishes at the five-team Joey Haines Invitational.

Southeast opened the meet, which is the only outdoor meet the Redhawks host, with wins in the hammer throw Friday at the Abe Stuber Track and Field Complex.

Kevin Farley won on the men's side with a throw of 176 feet, 3 inches. Kayla Gutierrez's throw of 174-1 won the women's event while Bethany Pfeiffer, Courtney Gapelu and Sarah Hall rounded out second through fourth place for the Redhawks, respectively.

Pfeiffer and Hall also finished first and third in the javelin on Saturday with throws of 135-7 and 112-11 while Gapelu was second in the shot put with a toss of 48-5 1/4.

Hall and Gutierrez took the second and third spots in the discus with throws of 142-10 and 138-11.

Brian Grote was first in the men's javelin (206-11) and Chris Navarro finished second (204-7).

The Redhawks took the top three spots in the men's triple jump. Reggie Miller won the event with a jump of 50-6. Chris Martin and Blake Carter finished second and third.

Miller tied for first in the high jump with a jump of 6-10 3/4 while Jacob Kent tied for third with a 6-4 3/4 jump.

Blake Smith took the long jump title with a distance of 24-3 3/4 and Carter's jump of 24-1 1/2 was good for third.

Navarro won the 110-meter hurdles in 14.31 seconds and Mike Peters won the 400-meter hurdles in 53.59 seconds.

Prenecia Ponds picked up first-place finishes in the women's 100 and 200-meter dashes with times of 12.01 and 24.44, respectively. Cheyenne Tunti won the 400-meter race in 56.41.

Macy Ritter and Abi Sowash tied for the top spot in the women's high jump with a height of 5-3. Ritter also finished second in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.72.

The Redhawks swept the top five spots in the women's 5,000-meter run. Rebekah Lawson won with a time of 17:36.47. Gloria Westlake, Lindsey Seabaugh, Melanie Lacey and Kristen Richardet rounded out the top five.

Southeast won the men's and women's 4x100 meter relay. Smith, Carter, Alexander Anderson and Martin won with a time of 41.37 while Ponds, Tunti, Ayonna Cartwright and Jessica Brown ran it in 46.96 to win.

The men's 4x400 meter relay of Ellis Maise, Tyler Holmes, Adam Shivers and Mike Peters finished second in 3:21.42.

Colten Strotheide ran the 5,000-meter run in 15:26.69, which was good for third place.

Kyle Shon and Jason Walker were second and third in the discus with distances of 163-5 and 158-2. Shon took third in the shot put with a throw of 54-8 3/4.

Erica Grajales tied for second in the women's pole vault with a height of 11-4 1/2 and Jordon Jeffers and Navarro tied for second in the men's pole vault with a height of 13-8 1/4.

Jessica Brown was second in the long jump with a jump of 18-10 3/4 while Ahshane Johnson was third in the triple jump with a jump of 40-9 1/2.

The Redhawks' men's team took first in the meet with 208.5 points with Memphis' 189 points coming in second. The women's team scored 206 points, which was good for first. Memphis was second with 154 points.
