LOCAL GYMNAST QUALIFIES FOR JUNIOR OLYMPIC MEET

Tanya Cwick, a Level 10 gymnast and student at Central High School, finished third in the all-around and earned a bronze medal in the Region 4 meet April 6 in St. Paul, Minn. She qualified for the national junior Olympic event May 4 and 5 in Landover, Md.

I-55 girls' soccer event begins today with 8 teams

Notre Dame Regional High School will host the eight-team, round-robin I-55 Girls' Soccer Tournament, which begins today and concludes Saturday.

The fourth annual tournament is divided into two divisions -- North (House Springs Northwest, Parkway West, Ft. Zumwalt South, St. Louis Notre Dame) and South (Cape Girardeau NotreDame, Central, Jackson, Poplar Bluff). Each school will play games against three of the four schools in the other division. A point system will crown a champion.

Homer Drew retired after 14 years as the Vaparaiso men's basketball coach. He will be replaced by his son, Scott Drew, an assistant coach for nine seasons.
