Oran's baseball team continued to live up to its No. 1 state ranking Friday at home, routing Portageville 10-4. The Eagles (11-1) jumped out to a 9-1 lead after three innings and cruised from there. Ryne Wood pitched a complete-game five-hitter for the win. Wood struck out 10, walked two and allowed one earned run. Wood helped his cause with a double and three RBIs. Joey Bickings was the offensive star for the Eagles, going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs...

SOFTBALL

Advance 5, Scott City 0

Scott City managed only two hits off Advance pitcher Dana Williams and was blanked on the road.

Megan Gresham picked up the loss for the Rams (5-8). Gresham struck out six and allowed only three hits, but her six walks gave the Hornets all the baserunners they would need.

Perryville 7, Farmington 1

Chris Schremp and Amber Hacker had two goals apiece as Perryville won at home.

The Pirates (10-5-2) also got goals from Ashley Riney, Anna Davis and Jenna Schuessler. Schuessler added two assists. Schremp, Hacker, Amber Crites and Jen Koenig each had an assist for Perryville.

TRACK AND FIELD

Poplar Bluff Invitational

Perryville scored 100.5 points and took second place in the Poplar Bluff Invitational behind a discus win by Sam Zahner. Poplar Bluff won the meet with 139 points and Sikeston was third with 90. Central placed fourth and Jackson finished sixth.

Zahner's throw of 146 feet edged out teammate Zach Leible, who's throw traveled 144 feet. Leible also finished second in the shot put. Perryville's Kent Hadler was second in the 800, Chris Porter finished second in the triple jump and the Pirates' 3,200 relay team placed second.

OTHER EVENTS

Nicole Jackson won the 200 and 400 meter dashes as Central Junior High's girls track and field team placed second at the Central Invitational Wednesday. Nadia Cox (long jump), Jennifer Willis (triple jump) and Courtney Schuessler (high jump) also scored wins for the Tigers.-- From staff reports
