Southeast Missouri State University's football team turned in an impressive performance Saturday night, but the news was not all good for the Indians.

Tailback Corey Williams -- the Indians' `Mr. Touchdown' -- suffered a dislocated left elbow late in the fourth quarter of a 41-14 win over Tennessee-Martin at Houck Stadium.

Williams would likely not even have been in the game but he was attempting to match Southeast's single-game individual touchdown record of five.

"It's an unfortunate deal for Corey," said Southeast head coach John Mumford.

Mumford said X-rays will show if there are any fractures. If not, then Williams could return to action relatively quickly.

"Dr. (William) Thorpe slipped the elbow back in place and we'll know about possible fractures either late tonight (Saturday) or early Sunday," Mumford said. "It's frustrating, but hopefully there are no fractures.

"Corey is really tough. He's been practicing on a bad ankle the past couple of weeks but he sure doesn't run like it."

Williams, who gained 131 yards on 21 carries and scored four touchdowns, leads the Ohio Valley Conference with nine touchdowns.

* While Williams led Southeast's running backs, several had impressive performances -- thanks in large part to a dominating performance by the Indians' offensive line, which mauled the smaller UTM defenders.

Broderick Benson added 95 yards and K.D. Koleosho picked up 50 yards.

Little-used Sturge Cumberford ran over a host of defenders on his way to gaining 21 yards on just four carries.

"I thought all our running backs ran hard," said Mumford. "Sturge really knocked some people down."

* Saturday's contest was no doubt a thrilling one for Mike Gross, a redshirt freshman out of Jackson High School.

Gross, the Indians' fourth-string quarterback, saw the first game action of his Southeast career and he led the Indians' final touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter.

Gross almost scored himself on a 23-yard run, being stopped just inches short of the goal line. But a few plays later, he threw a 1-yard TD pass to Benson.

"I hadn't played (in a game) since two years ago (in high school), so it was nice to get in," said a smiling Gross.

* Southeast used four quarterbacks: starter Kevin Seto, Jeff Shaw and redshirt freshman Bobby Brune, along with Gross, all saw action.
