Notre Dame's Wynn McClellan enjoyed a perfect week on the cross country trails.

The junior won the title at the SEMO Conference meet Thursday at Notre Dame, then took first at the Farmington Invitational on Saturday.

'He's just stayed very consistent," Notre Dame coach Bill Davis said. "Even as [Monday's] workout progressed, he just seems to get stronger through the workouts. So far this season, that's exactly what I've seen in him. It's just his ability to stay strong as the season goes along. He's not really hit any valleys at all."

McClellan committed to running as many miles as he could during the offseason. He estimates he ran about 650 miles to prepare for this season. It has paid off in a number of impressive finishes.

But McClellan also is inspired by his teammates, who continue to push him.

He led the Bulldogs to the SEMO Conference team championship by running a time of 16 minutes, 1 second and beating the school record set last year by current teammate Logan Davis.

McClellan won the title Saturday in Farmington, and his teammates finished second, third, fifth and sixth.

"The kids use the competition to spur themselves," Davis said. "They are very competitive among themselves, so that was good to see."
