Size isn't the issue

THIS IS to the woman who says she's a size 18 and her dream is to become a singer. Don't give up your dream, because there have been a whole lot of wonderful large singers over the years. Think of Mama Cass, Della Reese and Kate Smith. All these women were very large. All of them were very wonderful singers. People frequently do watch them on old movies and on shows on television in which you can still see them. Just don't give up your dream of becoming a singer, honey, because size should not be an issue. I wish you all the luck in the world.

Jackson's barriers

YOU HAVE your facts wrong. Jackson is making it hard for us developers to stay in Jackson. It is now more expensive and the city wants to stop the growth within the city limits. City officials told us this straight out. I hope the board of aldermen is warned. It's coming to a head.

Looking to the future

LAST MONTH, our nation's oil companies announced sharply increased profits for the fourth quarter of last year. Now they are saying the reason that they continue to raise fuel prices is because of what might happen. I think I'll ask my boss for a raise so, in case he lays me off, I too will have a nice nest egg. You never know what might just happen.

Pothole repairs

I NOTICED you had on the front page all about the potholes. I've got a $40 bill I'd like for MoDOT to pick up. We were on our way to the hospital emergency room in a snow storm and caught two of those potholes and had to have an alignment on our new car. I'm not very happy about it.

Low prices here

TO THE person complaining about paying $1.50 for gas: I drive from here to Mississippi. Believe me, the prices here are lower than anywhere else.

Simpsons: good example

I WAS shocked to find that someone was criticizing TV shows and the amount of sex and violence and specifically mentioning "The Simpsons" as being a bad show. The Simpsons go to church, never have outside marital relations and discipline their kids, morally and correctly, about as well as any family on TV.

No connection

THERE SEEMS to be a good amount of confusion regarding our current situation in the Middle East. The World Trade Center bombing was orchestrated by al-Qaida and brought about our war on terrorism. The issue with Iraq is not connected with the World Trade Center bombing in any way. Nor do we assert that to be the case when we go before the United Nations. Our issue with Iraq is its defiance of U.N. resolutions, period. The Bush administration knows that many Americans are confused on this issue but does nothing to clarify this situation since that confusion serves to further the administration's agenda.

Same old stuff

I SAW today where Missouri's legislative Republicans have thrown in with the Democrats and extended the borrowing to cover the deficit spending instead of correcting the spending. Selling bonds, which is borrowing money, is not balancing the budget. I don't see where there's any difference in the way the Republicans are acting now than Democrats. So why the big deal about having the Republican majority in the House and Senate? It hasn't done any good, it seems. They're going to do the same old stuff. Evidently they like what's going on.

It's your fault

REPUBLICANS are calling in about how President Bush is raked over the coal. They had a field day calling President Clinton a liar, adulterer and coward. And the economy was real good then. If you have any hard luck, you deserve every bit. You went to the polls and elected him. You didn't like it when the economy was good.
