New Salem Baptist School of Marble Hill, Mo., swept the Missouri Christian School Athletic Association State Basketball Tournament Saturday, claiming both boys and girls state championships.

The titles were the first for the boys and girls teams in the 12-year history of the program. The girls (22-7) dominated Warrenton Christian 49-29, and the boys (20-11) won 52-41 over Warrenton Christian.

Johnathan Davault led New Salem's boys with 22 points. David Green added 12 points, and Andy Yount had 10. All three were chosen for the all-state team.

In the girls game, New Salem led 20-15 at halftime. Sarah Green led New Salem with 14 points, and Holly Jordan added 10. Green and teammate MacKenzie Jones were chosen for the all-state team.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Scott City 68, Woodland 42

Scott City used a strong game from Tyler Ward to cruise past Woodland in a first-round Class 3, District 2 game at Bloomfield.

The Rams (17-6) led 39-21 at halftime. Ward paced Scott City with 23 points. Andy Beck finished with 13.

For Woodland (10-14) Travis Benfield had 13 points and Alex VanGennip 11.

Kelly 73, St. Vincent 60

Kelly raced to a 40-24 halftime lead in a first-round win at the Class 3, District 2 tournament in Bloomfield.

The Hawks (12-13) hit six first-half 3-pointers, including four by Lance Scheffer.

Scheffer led all scorers with 23 points. Major Burger added 18 points for Kelly.

The Indians (14-8)were led by Alex Armbruster's 21 points. Matt Wengert added 14, and Aaron Rellergert had 12.

Greenville 61, Chaffee 48

Chaffee's season ended in the Class 2, District 2 tournament at Poplar Bluff.

Sam Burnett's 18 points paced eighth-seeded Chaffee (6-17). James Reischman added 16. Greenville, the No. 9 seed, is 5-17.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Scott City 39, St. Vincent 35

Scott City built all the lead it would need after the first quarter in a first-round win in the Class 3, District 2 tournament at Bloomfield.

Scott City (11-12)held an 18-6 edge over St. Vincent (8-17) at the line. Chistine Schaeffer scored 12 points, and Jenny Pinkston 10 for Scott City.

Chaffee 54, Ellington 45

Chaffee picked up its first district win in coach Tammy Brock's four-year tenure with a first-round win in the Class 2, District 2 tournament at Poplar Bluff.

The Red Devils (7-13) jumped ahead 19-10 after the first quarter. The Red Devils were led by Jennifer Vandeven's 21 points. Amy Holmes added 11 points and 13 rebounds, and Mallory Kiefer had 13 points.
