In response to the article "Businesses change, but building remains": My extreme thanks to Janis Gosche and the Southeast Missourian for the article and great photos of my great-grandfather's (and later my grandparents, Ed and Mona Vandeven's) store. It has brought back some fond memories.

As a young girl in the 1950s I made summer visits from upstate New York to Cape Girardeau. I can still remember helping out collecting eggs from the chicken coop behind the store, taking orders for groceries by phone and selling Popsicles from the freezer.

This was a great piece of our family history.
