The first Southeast Missouri students to receive workplace readiness credentials will be honored March 11 at the Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center.
The credentials indicate to potential employers that the holders possess desirable entry-level skills, increasing the potential for on-the-job success.
The credentialing project is an effort among the CTC, the Southeast Regional Workforce Investment Board and Southeast Missouri State University. Students who receive the document are trained in punctuality, regular attendance, professional impressions, getting along with co-workers, making decisions, problem solving, working as a team, working safely, developing leadership skills, proper telephone techniques, dealing with customers, basic computer usage, developing a resume, job applications, job interviews, employer expectations, workplace habits and Internet job searches.
Participants also heard from actual employers.
On completion of the initial two-week training, participants entered a skill-specific training course in the six-week customer service class or eight-week nurse assistant class. The training was free to participants due to a work force development grant through the university and supplemented by the workforce investment board.
New students are being accepted into the program.
