Jackson native named plane captain in Maine

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Matthew F. Carr, son of Ruth and Frank Carr of Jackson, recently was designated a plane captain while serving with Patrol Squadron Eight, Naval Air Station Brunswick, Maine.

As a plane captain, Carr is responsible for the flight readiness and preflight inspection of an individual aircraft and is entrusted with ensuring that all required maintenance is performed.

To achieve the designation, he was required to demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot all mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and communications systems aboard his squadron's aircraft.

Carr is a 1982 graduate of Jackson High School and joined the Navy the same year.
