Cape Girardeau School District officials have added March 21 to the makeup days students will attend as a result of winter weather cancellations earlier this year.

Originally, the day could not be used as a makeup day because of a district music competition that was scheduled to take place at Central High School. The competition has been rescheduled for March 22.

The district has missed a total of eight days so far this year, but due to extra days built into the calendar, students only have to make up six days.

At the February school board meeting, board members voted for students to attend a half day April 18 and a full day April 21 as makeup days. Students will also attend June 5, 6, and 9 as makeup days.

The state requires districts hold classes 174 days a year. Districts are given a limited number of days with which they can dismiss early but still count the day as a full attendance day.
