Friendship Club
The Friendship Club met Feb. 11 at the home of Lola Wessell.
Ruby Bock gave the devotion, "God is the Answer."
A gift will be given to the Heart Fund.
Alma Bodenstrin won the traveling basket which was prepared by Wessell.
Cheryl Mathes presented a program on investment perspective.
The next meeting will be held March 11 at the home of Bock.
Oak Ridge FCE
The Oak Ridge FCE met on Feb. 18 at the home of Betty Dellinger in Jackson. Jack Byrd graciously taxied the ladies from Oak Ridge to the meeting. Marilyn Retherford opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Carol Jo Byrd gave the devotion and a mini lesson on the Club Collect. She had collected information on the author and how this particular collect was once a prayer.
Retherford also gave a short lesson on S-T-R-E-S-S Relief. Byrd led the group in an interesting question-and-answer session on U.S. presidents.
The minutes were read and an addition was made about the $57 collected from the last meeting which was put with the club's $25 to be used to buy items for the Ministerial Pantry in Jackson.
Billie Criddle gave the treasurer's report.
Kim Begley suggested large print bibles be bought for the Missouri Veteran's Home. The club agreed to contribute $50 to this project for March. Nelda Crader will check on obtaining the bibles.
Crader gave a mini-lesson about the "Tune Out Violence" activity. Members were given sheets for names of those who pledge to try to tune out violent programs on TV on April 5 and use the time for exercise.
Lee Anderson volunteered to be Meb Floyd's replacement as song and game leader.
Anderson, Dellinger, Byrd and Criddle will serve at Jackson Manor in March.
Volunteer hours and miles were taken to be recorded.
Crader and Retherford had worked on the Literacy Contest for fourth-graders in the area. They had copies of the county's winning essays on "What a Family Means to Me" and read them to the group. Two hundred and fifty essays were submitted from 10 schools.
Retherford conducted a program on disaster preparedness. Sunshine gifts were exchanged.
Wonderworkers FCE
The Wonderworkers FCE Club met Feb. 12 at the home of Dorothy Lichtenegger with six members present.
Volunteer hours were recorded for January 2003. The 2003 program schedule was approved.
June Landgraf gave a lesson on volunteering.
Exchange Club
The Exchange Club of Cape Girardeau met Feb. 18 at Port Cape Girardeau.
Ferd Sturm presented the program for the evening, the Youth of the Month. Andrew Moreton of Cape Central High School was the only student available to receive the award; the others had commitments elsewhere.
Merrill Simmons is working on the Giveakidaflagtowave program.
The next meeting will be March 18.
Alpha Mu Master
Alpha Mu Master chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Mary Schwab on Feb. 24. Marilyn Schwab served as co-hostess.
Carole Calvin, president, presided over the short business meeting. A monetary donation from the chapter will be sent to the Cape Girardeau Fire Department to be applied toward the purchase of the new fire camera.
A note was read from Marilyn Schwab thanking the chapter for the honor of being selected as the Alpha Mu Master Valentine queen. The queen selection was announced at the annual all-chapter Valentine dinner held Feb. 12.
It was announced that the progressive dinner, which was scheduled for March 16, has been postponed. A new date for the dinner will be announced at the next meeting, which will be March 10 at the home of Margaret Little.
Secret Sister gifts were exchanged, and the swaparoo drawing was won by Linda Metheny.
The program on "Friends and Friendships" was given by Metheny.
