PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Mo Vaughn and Tony Clark homered as the New York Mets battered Dustin Hermanson in a 14-2 victory over the Cardinals on Saturday.

Jose Reyes, held back in earlier games, made his much-anticipated debut for New York. The 19-year-old shortstop went 1-for-2 with a single as the Mets won their sixth straight.

Hermanson relieved Cardinals starter Jason Simontacchi and allowed seven runs on seven hits in one inning, giving up a two-run drive to Clark and a solo shot to Vaughn.

Clark is in Mets camp on a minor league contract trying to earn a spot as an outfielder and backup first baseman. He is 9-for-19 (.474) with three home runs.

Starting pitcher Jae Weong Seo allowed one run in three innings for the win.

MRI shows Edmonds has severe calf strain

St. Louis center fielder Jim Edmonds will be sidelined two to four weeks with a calf injury and could start the season on the disabled list.

An MRI exam Saturday showed the Gold Glover severely strained his left calf while playing the outfield during Friday's exhibition game against Florida.
