LYON, France -- French intelligence agents detained a man Tuesday in connection with a deadly synagogue attack in Tunisia last year, a judicial official said.

Slah Saadaoui, 25, is alleged to have supplied the main suspect in the blast with fake identification papers, said the official. The blast has been linked to Osama bin Laden's al-Qaida network.

The April 11 explosion on the Tunisian resort island of Djerba killed 21 people, mostly foreign tourists, and tore apart sections of a historic synagogue.

Agents of the DST, France's counterintelligence agency, detained the man on orders from French anti-terrorism judges who are investigating the attack.

Saadaoui's family confirmed his arrest and said he was a merchandise packer from the suburbs of Lyon.

Saadaoui can be held for questioning for up to four days to determine whether he should be placed under investigation, one step short of formal charges.

Three people are already under investigation in the attack.

French judicial officials suspect Osama bin Laden's No. 3 aide, Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, may have given the order by satellite telephone to attack the synagogue. Mohammed was recently captured in Pakistan and is being held in a secret location by the United States.

France issued its own arrest warrant for Mohammed last week to question him about the synagogue attack.
