SCOTT CITY -- Opal Coombes, 92, of Pekin, Ill., and formerly of Scott City, died Thursday, March 13, 2003, at Pekin Hospital.

She was born Now. 30, 1910, in Obion, Tenn., daughter of Jones C. and Mattie Baker Allen.

She married William A. Coombes on Oct. 26, 1930. He preceded her in death on May 28, 1941.

She had been a department manager at Stix, Baer & Fuller in St. Louis, Mo., for 35 years, retiring in 1987.

Survivors include a sister, Doris Vaughn of Manito, Ill.; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Monday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. Charles Lance will officiate. Burial will be in Lightner Cemetery in Scott City.
