A 23-year-old Cape Girardeau man was taken into custody Monday night after police saw him throw a substance believed to be crack cocaine from his vehicle during a short chase. Cape Girardeau police Sgt. Kevin Orr said a police cruiser tried to stop the vehicle after it was observed making an improper U-turn. A 23-year-old Cape Girardeau man was taken into custody Monday night after police saw him throw a substance believed to be crack cocaine from his vehicle during a short chase.

Cape Girardeau police Sgt. Kevin Orr said a police cruiser tried to stop the vehicle after it was observed making an improper U-turn. Orr said the driver did not stop and during the pursuit was seen throwing something from his vehicle that police were able to recover. The pursuit ended on South Pacific Street.

Orr said police will seek multiple charges against the driver for traffic violations and possession of a controlled substance.

Formal charges had not yet been filed Monday night.
