Objections by two area television stations could indefinitely delay startup of cable television system in Cape Girardeau; Cape County Cable TV president, Larry Hudson, says objection to issuance of certificate of compliance by Federal Communications Commission by WPSD-TV in Paducah, Ky., and KFVS-TV in Cape Girardeau may indefinitely delay granting of certificate.

Negotiations were completed yesterday for purchase of Riverside Home Centers in Cape Girardeau and area and Riverside Associated Companies by Charles N. Harris, Cape Girardeau businessman and industrialist, from William J. Kies Sr. Trust.

50 years ago: March 24, 1953

Jesse Sterling, 514 Olive, files as candidate for board of education at annual school election April 17; letter signed by Sterling and four others asking that his name be placed on ballot cites that besides owning property he is father of graduate of John S. Cobb School; Sterling is employed as cement finisher.

Jim Foster, manager of Esquire Theater, announces first 3-D movie will be shown at Esquire in April; exact date of showing will depend upon arrival and installation of special equipment, including new screen, rectifier, magazines and projection interlocking devices; movie will be "Bwana Devil," story of jungle life.

75 years ago: March 24, 1928

George H. Barks, 79, former county judge of Cape Girardeau County, died at his home at Whitewater yesterday; born in Bollinger County, short distance over line from this county, Barks spent his entire life in and near Whitewater and for many years was identified with civic enterprises in that community.

Carp Co. opens new store, which is three times as large as one it opened year ago; new store occupies two of largest store rooms on Main Street, two being made into one space.
