New Salem UMW

The New Salem United Methodist Women of Daisy, Mo., met March 13 at the church. President Jackie Kurre called the meeting to order and welcomed guests from Sargents Chapel and Oak Ridge Baptist Church.

The spring meeting will be held April 5 at Hobbs Chapel in Cape Girardeau.

A thank-you card was signed by everyone and will be given to the young adult class who served breakfast after church one Sunday.

The World Day of Prayer program, "Holy Spirit Fill Us," was given by Roberta Seabaugh and was about Lebanon. Those assisting her were Margie Roberts, Betty Hahs, Kurre, Dorothy Hahs and Verla Mangles. After the program, everyone gathered in the fellowship hall for refreshments served by Betty Hahs.

Xi Nu Phi

Xi Nu Phi met March 18 at the home of Tammy Monia. The program was the election of officers for 2003-2004. They are: Cheryl Smith, president; Cindy Propst, vice president; Tammy Monia, recording secretary; Paulette Beussink, corresponding secretary; Charlsie Keller, treasurer; Renee Hesselrode, city council representative; Lindi Biri, extension officer; and Cathy Pancoast, secret pal chairman.

Carla Harold spoke on the state convention, which will be held in Cape Girardeau in 2005. Also, the Founder's Day banquet was discussed. It will be held April 24 at Centenary United Methodist Church, hosted by Alpha Lambda Master. Social hour will be at 5:30 p.m. with the dinner at 6 p.m.

The next meeting will be Tuesday at the home of Harold.

Capaha Scottish Rite Women's Club

The Capaha Scottish Rite Women's Club held its March meeting at Delmonico's in Jackson. Louella Armstrong opened the meeting and led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Freeda Smothers voiced the table prayer. Hostesses were Violet Reynolds and Smothers. Vester Meyer was program chair.

Hostess gifts were won by Armstrong and Meyer.

A get-well card was sent to Helen Dittlinger who has been in the hospital.

The April meeting will be at Delmonico's. Hostess will be Ceil Law and program chair will be Doris Hurst.

Alpha Rho

Alpha Rho of Beta Sigma Phi met March 20 in the home of LaRue Brown. She presented the topic, "History of St. Patrick."

Officers for 2003-2004 were elected. They are: Erma Vaughan, president; Rosanna Whitnel, vice president; Mary Ann Nenninger, recording secretary; LaRue Brown, corresponding secretary; Norma Schrieber, treasurer; and Bonnie Hennessy, Edna Hey and Loretta Atkins, city council representatives. Theme for 2004 will be "Colors of Friendship."

Marion Edwards reached "Golden Circle," 50 years in Beta Sigma Phi.

Founder's Day was discussed. It will be held April 24 at Centenary United Methodist Church.

The next meeting will be April 3 at 1816 LaMesa in Cape Girardeau. It will be an Easter brunch.

Oak Ridge FCE

The Oak Ridge FCE met in the home of Billie Criddle on March 18. There were 10 members and two guests present.

The secretary's minutes and treasurer's report were read. It was decided to give a monetary gift to The Gideon's International for bibles they supplied to the Missouri Veterans Home.

Leader Training will be held Monday at the Extension Center in Jackson. Those to attend and the workshop they will attend are: Betty Dellinger and Nelda Crader, Financial Planning in Later Life; Jean Rahak, chocolate; Kim Begley, honey; Ruby Hitt, hormone replacement; and Criddle, soap making.

The spring meeting of the District FCE Clubs will be May 2 in Poplar Bluff.

The international meal will be held April 15 at the home of Mary Dee Ford. Theme will be Tasmanian. Members chose dishes they would like to prepare and recipes were given to them. Recipes are to be kept and put in the club's scrapbook.

Volunteers for the Jackson Manor birthday party are Carole Jo Byrd, Crader and Begley.

A program on volunteering was given by Crader and Byrd demonstrated making a modge podge plate.

Eastside Homemakers

The Eastside Homemakers met March 19 at Woodard's in Jackson. After a brunch, a short meeting was held.

The program was on St. Patrick's Day and shamrocks were given by Violet Reynolds.

The next meeting will be at 11 a.m. April 16 at Golden Gate Restaurant in Jackson.
