DONIPHAN, Mo. -- A former Poplar Bluff, Mo., teacher is free on bond Wednesday after being charged with sexually assaulting a student.

Timothy Slayton, 32, of Fairdealing, Mo., resigned his teaching duties in January following allegations of misconduct with a student.

The charges in Ripley County are connected to those allegations.

Slayton was booked at the Doniphan City Jail after he turned himself in at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant charging him with two Class C felonies of second-degree sexual assault.

He was released after he posted a $10,000 bond.

Slayton is to appear at 9 a.m. April 10 before Associate Circuit Judge James Hall in Division II for arraignment on the charges, according to court personnel.

The warrant was issued late Monday for Slayton's arrest.
