Wet, chilly weather couldn't deter the opening round of the Noon Optimist Spring Classic as host Notre Dame, Central, Jackson and Perryville all won first-round games on Friday.

The four schools will square off in today's noon semifinals: Jackson, a 6-0 winner over Poplar Bluff, will face Notre Dame, which defeated Marion (Ill.) 6-0; Central, which came from behind to defeat St. Vincent 2-1, will take on Perryville, a 4-0 winner over Farmington.

The semifinal winners will meet for the championship at 4 p.m. The third-place match will be held at the same time.

Central (2-0) posted the most dramatic victory behind two Megan McDonald goals. Chelsey Brown sent St. Vincent to a 1-0 lead 21 minutes into the game, but McDonald tied the score at the 39-minute mark off a pass from Allie McGinty. McDonald scored an unassisted game-winner midway through the second half.

Jackson (1-0) used the sister tandem of Lucy and Molly Hartmann to ease past Poplar Bluff. Lucy, a freshman, scored three goals and Molly, a sophomore, added two. Emily Curtis scored the final goal. Picking up assists were Elizabeth Nussbaum, Whitney Dietl, Katie Domian and Molly Hartmann. Whitney Werner recorded the shutout in goal.

Notre Dame (2-0) received a three-goal performance from Sierra Ellis, while Amanda Dirnberger netted two and Kristen VanGennip one. Megan Holloway, Jesse Westrich and Allison Essner provided assists. Goalkeeper Katie Palmer notched the shutout.

Perryville (2-0) scored all four of its goals in the first half against Farmington. Ashley Riney opened the scoring 18 minutes in off a feed from Jen Koenig. Koenig netted the second goal unassisted and Ashly Hadler closed out the half with a pair of unassisted goals. Kate Lowery made three saves to record the shutout.

The consolation semifinals will be at 10 a.m. today. Poplar Bluff and Marion will pair off, as will Farmington and St. Vincent. The consolation final will be at 2 p.m.
