Chase ends in arrest of Jackson woman

A woman who allegedly struck a Cape Girardeau law enforcement officer with her car at the beginning of a Wednesday morning car chase has landed in jail.

Police said patrolman Kevin Nager stopped Lisa Bareiter, 35, of Jackson for traffic violations in the 1100 block of North Frederick Street. When he ran a check, he learned that Bareiter had three Cape Girardeau County warrants for her arrest -- one for stealing and two for probation violation.

When the officer approached the vehicle, Bareiter locked her car doors, rolled up the windows and drove away, striking Nager and causing him to roll over the hood and fall to the ground. He was not injured.

The woman was apprehended 29 minutes later on County Road 525 near Pocahontas after a chase with speeds approaching 65 miles per hour. Another police cruiser got involved with the chase and a deputy with the sheriff's department laid down tire spikes, which were effective, according to sheriff's Lt. Vincent Diebold.

Bareiter was charged with felony assault on a law enforcement officer, fleeing arrest and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. She remains in custody on a $25,000 cash-only bond for the assault charge and three $2,500 bonds for her other warrants.

Arrests made in two Jackson burglaries

Four people are in custody at the Cape Girardeau County jail in connection with a pair of recent burglaries in Jackson.

The Jackson Police Department arrested Ramsey S. Davis, 21, Justin Hughes, 17, and Teddy West, 18, all of Jackson for their alleged involvement in burglaries at Wink's Convenience Store at 1402 Old Cape Road on Thursday. Davis and Hughes have also been arrested for a burglary at the Kimbeland Country Club that occurred March 14.

A juvenile also connected with the Wink's burglary was taken and detained at the Juvenile Detention Center.

Approximately $180 and a carton of cigarettes were reported stolen from Wink's, while $1,800 was reported stolen from Kimbeland.

Davis is being held on a $15,000 bond, while Hughes and West are being held on $10,000 bonds.

Traffic on bridge to be reduced to one lane

The Mississippi River bridge in Cape Girardeau will be reduced to one lane during parts of the day Monday through Thursday while crews from Jefferson City make repairs.

Work is planned from noon to 5 p.m. on Monday; from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday; and Thursday from 7 a.m. to noon.

The work zone will be marked with signs.
