Central's baseball team brought out its bats in a big way Saturday, banging out 17 hits in a 14-0 five-inning win at home.
John Thies picked up his second win by pitching three innings and striking out six. Pitchers combined for 10 strike outs and allowed three hits for Central (3-0). Offensively the Tigers had five different hitters with at least two hits.
"It's been a while since we've been 3-0 to start a season," Central coach Steve Williams said.
Mark Dunaway led the charge with a 3-for-3 day, including two doubles. Josh Ford, Chris Daniel, Aaron Dohogne and Chris Conrad had two hits apiece.
Sean Bard added a two-run home run. Dohogne added three RBIs. Conrad, Bard and Mitch Craft had two RBI apiece.
Central's strong stsrt will be tested this week in games against Jackson, Sikeston and Parkway North.
Chaffee 3, Kelly 1
Zac Horman gave up two hits in seven innings to help Chaffee win its first game.
Horman struck out seven in the complete-game win. The Red Devils banged out only seven hits of their own but generated enough runs to beat the visiting Hawks.
Brandon Davis and Sam Burnett each had two hits for Chaffee.

Dobbelare paces Pirates to title in home meet
Kyle Dobbelare won three events and led the host Pirates to a big win at the Perryville Invitational track and field meet Saturday.
Perryville finished with 180.5 points, nearly 100 points better than second-place Potosi (89.5). Dobbelare won the 110 hurdles (15.28), 300 intermediate hurdles (41.62) and the long jump (20-5). Perryville also received first-place finishes from Kevin Bohnert (100 and 200-meter dash), Sam Zahner (discus), Aaron Schaef (shot put) and Chris Porter (triple jump).
Perryville's girls team finished fifth with 85 points. Jackson topped the field with 127 points. Heather West was the big winner for the Indians. West won the triple jump (34-11), long jump (16-33/4) and finished third in the pole vault (7-6). Emily Armburger was Perryville's lone first-place finisher in the 200 meter (28.29). Hanna Fritsche took second in the discus (102-1) and shotput (34-41/2).
GIRLS SWIMMING
ND finishes second to Rosati Kain at home
Ashly Ducharme picked up two individual wins but could not push Notre Dame past visiting Rosati Kain in a tri-meet at the Central Municipal Pool.
Ducharme won the 200 IM (2:42.99) and the 100 back (1:14.05). Janelle Essner won the 200 free (2:15.48) and Lauren Bader won diving (144.7) for the Bulldogs.
