Notre Dame pulls away late for victory against Perryville

Notre Dame put away Perryville in the seventh inning, scoring four insurance runs to pick up a 12-6 road victory Tuesday in high school baseball.

"It was just huge. They got a little rally going and cut it to 8-6, and we come in and put up a four spot and it took the wind out of their sails," Notre Dame coach Jeff Graviett said.

Matt Wulfers hit another home run, his fifth of the season and fourth in the last two games.

Notre Dame (3-1) managed to post five runs in the first three innings on Perryville (0-4).

Lee Essner earned the win, fanning three and walking one in 5 1/3 innings. He was charged with six runs on eight hits.

Kyle Dively finished 3-for-4 with a home run and two doubles for Notre Dame. Wulfers was 2-for-5 with a triple and four RBI's.

Tim Winningham was 2-for-4 with a triple for Perryville (0-4). Aaron Weibrecht and Lonnie Sadler each went 2-for-3. Jason Pruesser's only hit of the game was a home run.

Oran 10, Leopold 0

Oran pounded out 12 hits and beat Leopold in five innings on the road.

Trey Graviett struck out 10 in four innings for the win. Nathan Seyer, Ryne Wood, Joey Bickings, Matt Seyer and Tyler Cookson each had two hits for Oran (2-0). Josh Van de Ven had the lone hit for the Wildcats (1-1).

Chaffee 11, Charleston 1

James Reischman had four hits -- three for extra bases-- as the visiting Red Devils won big.

Chaffee jumped out 4-0 after one inning and cruised from there. Brent Thomason pitched five innings for the win. Reischman finished with two triples, a double and a single. Robert Coomer added three hits for Chaffee and Sam Burnett had two.

Bloomfield 9, Woodland 8

Woodland made a late comeback but fell short on the road.

The Cardinals trailed 9-5 after five innings. Woodland plated three in the sixth, but failed to score in the seventh. Alex VanGennip took the loss for Woodland (2-2). VanGennip pitched three innings, allowed four runs and struck out three.

VanGennip, Scott Crader, Luke Johnson and Dillon Yount had two hits apiece for Woodland. Travis Benfield added a home run for the Cardinals.

GIRLS SOCCER

Jackson 1, Central 0

Jackson senior Whitney Werner picked up her fourth straight shutout to help Jackson improve to 4-0.

Molly Hartmann scored the game's only goal in the 30th minute from Courtney Urhahn.

Central's junior varsity team won 3-0.

St. Vincent 8, Fredericktown 0

Caitlin Hoeh scored four goals and added an assist as St. Vincent rolled at home.

Jessica Behrle added two goals for the Squaws. Amanda Carron had a goal and two assists and Chelsey Brown had the other goal. Beth Hennemann, Theresa Mattingly, Rachel Hadler and Dani Emmendorfer each had an assist.

SOFTBALL

Leopold 5, Oran 4

Leopold managed only three hits but found a way to pull out a victory at home.

Jessica Stoverink pitched three innings of scoreless relief for the win. Amanda Dunn had two hits and three RBIs for the Wildcats (2-0). Lexi Todt had two hits and four RBIs for Oran.

Chaffee 14, Charleston 0

Abby Walter had three hits, including a home run, as the visiting Red Devils won in five innings.

Kegan Orr added three hits and two runs scored for Chaffee (1-1). Sarah Dooley and Molly Fowler had two hits apiece for Chaffee. Shannon Hampton pitched a complete game, striking out eight and allowing one hit.

Advance 18, Richland 0

Alicia Broshuis went 4-for-4 at the plate and allowed just two hits in Advance's five-inning road victory.

Dana Williams, who went 3-for-4, Laura Adkinson and Amber Wilson all hit home runs for Advance (3-0). The Hornets had 16 hits overall.

BOYS GOLF

Central edges Jackson

Central nipped Jackson by three strokes in a quad meet at Kimbeland Country Club.

Central finished with a 157, followed by Jackson (160), Notre Dame (177) and Clearwater (197). Individually Jackson's Matt Litzelfelner had the top score with a 1-over 36. Central's Todd Obergoenner (37), Tyson Seabaugh (38) and Blake Driskell (39) rounded out the top four. Notre Dame's top finisher was John Obermark (42).

TRACK AND FIELD

Central sweeps ND

Central overpowered Notre Dame in a dual meet at Central Junior High School.

Central's boys won 105-35, winning 14 events. Central's girls won 96-29, taking all 18 events.

Central's Anthony Harris won the long jump and high jump in the boys' events. Central's Doschae Jones was a double winner among the girls, placing first in the triple jump and discus.

Notre Dame's girls 400, 800 and 1,600-meter relay teams each set school marks. Emily Bira, Ashley Millham, Laura Weissmueller and Erin Pfau set the 800 mark in 1:53.3. Amber Karnes replaced Millham on the 400 team which set the record in 53.88 seconds. Karnes joined Katie Daniel, Kristin Hobbs and Millham on the 1,600 team that set the school record in 4:38.0. Bira set the fourth record with a :27.71 in the 200.
