Douglas Lebert, one of three finalists for Jackson for the chief of police job, has 12 years of municipal law enforcement experience.

He spent five of those years in command positions, including the last two as Lebanon, Ill., police chief.

He said he is looking to advance in his law enforcement career and is looking for an area that is conducive to raising his two children.

Lebert said he has visited Jackson four times to check out the community, including one visit before he even applied for the job.

"I find Jackson to offer a safe, serene setting complimented by a top-notch school district," he said. "We have found the community offers every amenity necessary -- beautiful parks, schools and housing, definitely not a play on the words of the city's slogan."

The other two finalists are Jackson Lt. James Humphreys and Jeffery Womack, who recently retired from the Missouri Highway Patrol Gaming Division.
