Daniel L. Overbey, who has had varied career in promoting economic development, marketing, and finance, has been named executive director of Southeast Missouri Regional Port Authority; for last four years, Overbey has been real-estate representative with Drury Development Corp.

City of Cape Girardeau is taking advantage of historic low interest rates to refinance, for second time, bonds used to construct Show Me Center; city manager J. Ronald Fischer says bonds have been refinanced at 4.88 percent interest, which is expected to save more than $240,000 in financing costs over life of bonds.

25 years ago: April 8, 1978

Students from Puxico walked away with 17 of special awards presented at ceremonies Friday night for 22nd Annual Southeast Missouri Regional Science Fair; Perryville students took home 11 awards, while students from Cape Girardeau won nine.

In its 125th year, historic Old St. Vincent's Church will start new adventure Tuesday night, when it is first used as concert hall; Southeast Missouri State University's music department will present Handel's "The Dettingen Te Deum."

50 years ago: April 8, 1953

Two veteran members were re-elected to Cape Girardeau's board of education yesterday in balloting that was heavy by comparison with other years; Dr. A.C. Magill, retired head of science department at State College and Cape Girardeau County's representative in legislature, was elected to fourth term; Walter H. Oberheide, vice president of Farmers & Merchants Bank, was elected to his seventh three-year term.

There were 1,079 votes cast in yesterday's Jackson city election; most interest was shown in school board election than possibly at any previous time: Mrs. G.C. Schoen, who was candidate supported by women's clubs, led ticket, receiving 410 votes.

75 years ago: April 8, 1928

Easter Sunday.

Cape Girardeau churches observe Easter with special services; at Christ Evangelical Sunday School service, each member of school is asked to bring flower from home, which is used to decorate two crosses; members of Grace Methodist Church hold sunrise service, with evangelist Lon D. Parker preaching on "The Facts of the Resurrection."

Large crowd of Cape Girardeau children participate in third annual Easter egg hunt, staged by Lions Club at Fairgrounds Park in afternoon; at same time, children of city enjoy similar hunt staged at Giboney Park on south side.
