Central's girls soccer team used a big second half to win a road game Thursday and even its record.

The Tigers broke away from a scoreless halftime tie to roll past Marion (Ill.) 3-0.

Central (7-7) went ahead for good 15 minutes into the second half when Megan McDonald scored on a penalty kick. McDonald and Stephanie White added goals with White and Kate Miller earning assists. Megan Kistner had the shutout.

Central's JV won 3-0.

St. Vincent 2, Perryville 1

Perryville's girls soccer team ran into a hot goalie and fell to .500 after a loss at home.

St. Vincent goalie Michelle Herzog made 17 saves to stymie the Pirates, who had 31 total shots.

Chris Schremp struck first for Perryville (4-4-1) eight minutes in on a pass from Ashly Hadler. The Squaws (8-5) answered less than two minutes later on a deep blast from Amanda Carron.

Ten minutes into the second half Jessica Behrle scored the game winner on a break away. Caitlin Hoeh picked up the assist.

BASEBALL

Knoxville (Tenn.) Karns 5, Central 2

Central allowed four unearned runs in the fifth inning and lost on the opening day of the 20-team Trojan Classic in Chattanooga, Tenn.

The Tigers (6-4) outhit Karns (14-4) six to four but two errors doomed Central.

Mark Dunaway and Seth Hudson each had two hits for the Tigers.

John Thies was the losing pitcher, allowing all five runs in four-plus innings. Hudson hurled the final two innings, allowing no runs and no hits. He fanned three.

Oran 10, Bloomfield 0

Matt Seyer struck out nine in a five-hit complete-game, five-inning shutout as Oran won at home.

The Eagles (8-1) had 11 hits. Seyer, Nathan Seyer, Ryne Wood and Patrick Friga had two hits apiece. Tyler Cookson delivered three RBIs.

Bernie 6, Leopold 2

Leopold was limited to one hit and lost at home.

The Wildcats (4-5) were struck out 17 times, with Kevin Holzum having Leopold's hit and RBI. Josh Van de Ven scored Leopold's a run on a wild pitch.

SOFTBALL

Leopold 14, Bernie 10

Leopold cranked out 17 hits, including three home runs, in a home win.

Anna Nenninger led the Wildcats (8-0) with four RBIs and a home run. Becky Seiler went 3-for-4 with a home run. Laurie Vandermierden had a 2-for-3 day. Nenninger, Giana Saputo and Wendy Vandeven each had two hits apiece for Leopold.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Lafayette 146, Central 40

Jackie Erlacker fell just short of the degree of difficulty requirements to qualify for the state meet in diving when she scored a 218.45 for Central's only win on the road.

Erlacker's degree of difficulty was 11.8, while the state qualifying mark is 12.0. The state qualifying point total is 210, a number Erlacker surpassed. Central's medley relay, 200 free relay and 400 free relay each were third. Kara Crawford was third in diving.

TRACK AND FIELD

Central, Sikeston split

Central split decisions in a dual meet with Sikeston.

The girls team won 96-40 after Alex Weiser won all four of her events (3,200 relay, 1,600 relay, 800 relay, 400). Jennifer Pancoast provided three wins, teaming up with Weiser in the 1600 and the 3200 relay while also winning the 800.

Grant Hengst won two events for the boys (3,200 relay, 800), who lost 77-68.

Notre Dame boys third

Notre Dame's boys placed third and the girls were fourth during the Old Settlement Invitational at Ste. Genevieve.

Tyler Cubs paced the Bulldogs by winning the 100 and 200. Other winners were Bryce Willen in the pole vault and the 3,200 relay team.

Notre Dame's Amber Karnes set a school record and finished second in the 400 in 1:04.24.-- From staff reports
