Construction and progress has picked up again at a subdivision just outside of Jackson, a subdivision that had become stagnant over the last few years.

Kevin Mayfield purchased the land at Indian Springs Estates about two months ago from Roy Meier. The property is located on the north side of Highway 34, just east of the intersection of 34 and Highway 72. It is 1.3 miles west of Jackson.

"Jackson's full," Mayfield said. "Everything is moving outward. This is close to town, but far enough out to see wildlife."

Mayfield, who owns a home near the property, said Meier couldn't do much with the property the last couple of years because of health reasons.

Real estate agent Kerry Johnson added that the property had never before been marketed, which likely contributed to its slow-moving success.

Steady interest

In the last couple of months, Johnson said the interest has been more than steady. On Thursday, he showed the property to two different prospective buyers.

Mayfield bought the property about two months ago and has hit the ground running. In addition to the three houses already built along Indian Springs, Mayfield is in the process of having two homes built, which will be sold at a later date.

Real estate agent Kerry Johnson said the subdivision will be different than many others because of its diversity.

He said Mayfield's experience in the concrete business gives him access to many different floor plans.

'Just the opposite'

"It's just the opposite of those subdivisions in bigger cities where everything looks the same," he said.

Otto "Butch" Boyer has lived at Indian Springs for four years. He said he's looking forward to having more neighbors. He said he likes the location.

"We've got a lake and a boat dock and everything," he said.

The first phase of the project includes 14 lots, six of which are still available.

The lots will range between 3/4 acre to 1 3/4 acres and from $23,000 to $35,000 in price. The homes will generally run in the $160,000 to $190,000 range.

The subdivision will ultimately extend to the other side of the lake -- phase 2 of the project. The second phase will consist of 11 lots, about two acres apiece and will sell in the $30,000 to $40,000 range.
