Central shored up its defense and bounced back to finish the 20-team Trojan Classic baseball tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn., with a pair of wins Saturday.

The Tigers, who went 2-3 in the tournament and are 8-6 overall, rolled past host squad Soddy-Daisy (Tenn.) 11-2 and rallied past Memphis (Tenn.) Fairley 11-8.

Central, after committing nine errors during two losses Friday, had just one error in Saturday's two games.

"We moved some players around and played much better defensively," Central coach Steve Williams said. "It was good to bounce back."

Jake Welch was the winning pitcher against Soddy-Daisy with five innings of scoreless relief. He allowed five hits, struck out two and walked none.

The Tigers had 11 hits, led by Chris Conrad and Mitch Craft with three apiece. Craft also drove in two runs while Mark Dunaway belted his team-high third home run of the season, a three-run shot.

Against Memphis Fairley, the Tigers trailed 8-1 in the early going before storming from behind.

Chris Daniel, the third of four Central hurlers, got the win with 3 1/3 scoreless innings. He allowed two hits. Seth Hudson earned the save by pitching a scoreless and hitless seventh.

Central had 14 hits, with Conrad, Mark Dunaway, Lucas Presson, Aaron Dohogne and Tyler Blackwell all getting two. Patrick Slattery had a two-run homer.
