St. Francis wins four communications awards
St. Francis Medical Center won two Crystal Awards of Excellence and two Awards of Distinction in the Communicator Awards 2003 Print Media competition.
The Communicator Awards is an international competition that recognizes outstanding work in communications. Entries receiving a Crystal Award of Excellence are among the best in the world.
St. Francis won its awards for the Weekly Health Page, a full-page advertorial that runs in the Southeast Missourian, Cash-book Journal and Daily American Republic, and the hospital foundation's Littie Reasons Case Statement that assisted in fund-raising efforts for the Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
High school yearbook places in state contest
Recently, the 2001-2002 Girardot yearbook from Central High School in Cape Girardeau received a superior rating from the Missouri Interscholastic Press Association. Last year's book was submitted in the medium schools category.
The book was judged on layout, design, use of photos, writing and theme. The theme of last year's 288-page book was "What a Long Strange Trip It's Been" and focused on the 50 years of high school education at 205 Caruthers.
MIPA ranks yearbooks from all over the state and the highest honor a book can receive is "All-Missouri." The Girardot was only 18 points away from earning that honor. MIPA is based out of the School of Journalism at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
