KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Several small tornadoes were reported in Missouri and Kansas as a storm system with strong winds and large hail moved across the region on Tuesday, two days after tornadoes extensively damaged several communities in both states.

Joy Moser, spokeswoman for the Kansas Division of Emergency Management, said a tornado touched down briefly around 4 p.m. east of Chanute in eastern Kansas. She said the tornado did not cause any damage.

Rick Bias, emergency management director for Morgan County in central Missouri, said trained spotters had reported a tornado briefly touching the ground south of Missouri 52 between Versailles and Stover.

Weather spotters also reported a tornado south of Versailles near Missouri 5.

Bias said there had been reports of limbs and trees down, including a tree that destroyed a dock at Tony's Point on the Lake of the Ozarks.

Bias said there was also minor flooding in areas and that golf-ball sized hail was reported in the Versailles and Rocky Mount areas.

The National Weather Service received a report of a tornado north of Emporia, Kan., in Lyon County at 10:48 a.m.

Moser said there were reports of wind damage and limbs down near Emporia, but no tornadoes.

Officials with the Emporia Police Department and the Lyon County Sheriff's Department said they had not received reports of damage.
