Strawberry festival will include auctions

Teen Challenge International of Mid-America will hold its 13th Annual Strawberry Festival and auction from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Activities include drawings every 15 minutes for free strawberries, complimentary strawberry shortcake, guided tours of the Teen Challenge property and berry fields, miniconcerts by New Creations choir and puppet shows for the children. Strawberries and a barbecue meal will be available for purchase.

New to the festival is a silent and oral benefit auction for TCIMA. Included in the wide variety of items are a wooden boat and trailer, used automobiles, numerous gift certificates and St. Louis Cardinals baseball tickets.

TCIMA is a long-term residential program which ministers to men with life-controlling problems through a Christian discipleship program which includes pastoral counseling, biblical studies, a general work experience program and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Teen Challenge was established in 1958 by David Wilkerson, Teen Challenge has grown to more than 150 centers in the United States and 250 centers world wide.

TCIMA currently has 139 students. The program has been ministering to students since 1970. TCIMA is supported by donations from individuals, churches, business and concerned civic groups. They receive no government funding. Students -- some as young as 16 -- are not charged for their stay. It costs about $28 to be in the program daily. There is no age limit for students in the program.

Studies have shown that 70 percent to 86 percent of graduates will live positive, drug-free lives.
