Hempstead charged with felonies

Anthony Hempstead will return to court Aug. 18 for his arraignment on two counts of distribution of a controlled substance.

Hempstead, 17, is charged with selling crack cocaine to an undercover officer with the SEMO Drug Task Force on two occasions on June 14. The purchases were recorded on video, according to a probable cause statement.

A warrant was issued for Hempstead's arrest on July 21. His arraignment was scheduled for Thursday but was continued to Aug. 18.

This past winter as a junior at Central High, Hempstead averaged 11 points and 10 rebounds per game for the boys basketball team. He was a second-team all-conference selection in the SEMO Conference.
