To the editor: On July 2, 2005, a roadside marker was erected in southern Bollinger County honoring the men who lost their lives at the Battle of Mingo Swamp on Feb. 4, 1863. Over 150 people attended a reception at the Zalma Masonic Lodge. The descendants and friends of the Cato/McGee families are requesting assistance. A monument at Greenbriar Cemetery is badly needed to mark the spot where 28 men who lost their lives that day are buried...

On July 2, 2005, a roadside marker was erected in southern Bollinger County honoring the men who lost their lives at the Battle of Mingo Swamp on Feb. 4, 1863. Over 150 people attended a reception at the Zalma Masonic Lodge.

The descendants and friends of the Cato/McGee families are requesting assistance. A monument at Greenbriar Cemetery is badly needed to mark the spot where 28 men who lost their lives that day are buried.

In order to raise money for the project, Bob Krone Photography of Cape Girardeau has generously offered to sell DVDs of the July 2 dedication ceremony. This DVD includes a moving speech given by John Zdroj and a bonus picture slide show. The cost of the DVD is $26, which includes shipping. Mr. Krone is giving $20 per DVD sold toward the monument project. Anyone interested in purchasing a DVD can mail a check payable to: Bob Krone Photography, 1917 Robin Hood Circle, Cape Girardeau, Mo. 63701.

Our goal is to preserve the rich Civil War history in Southeast Missouri and remember our brave Missouri fighting men.
