Cape County FCE; Kage FCE Club; New Salem UMW

Wonderworkers FCE

The Wonderworkers FCE Club met at the home of Margie W. Reisenbichler on Sept. 8. A report on the Cape Girardeau County FCE Extension meeting was given by Margie W. Reisenbichler informing members that $250 was given by the council to the American Red Cross for the air to the Hurricane Katrina and flood victims.

A report was given on the meeting of the FCE vice presdients of Bollinger, Perry, and Cape Girardeau counties to plan for the year of 2006 training lessons. The meeting for the training lesson will be held Nov. 4 in Bollinger County with lessons to be on my food pyramid, jewelry making, domestic violence and gardening for the birds.

The club donated canned sodas to the Cape Girardot Center in Cape Girardeau for their play day. An invitation was received to a dessert tasting to be held at the Jackson Extension Center on Oct. 5 at 6 p.m.

The club will observe National FCE Week by honoring their families at supper at the Hunan Chinese Food and Steak Buffet on Oct. 15.

The program was "something just for me" given by Joy Engelhart and Margie E. Reisenbichler.

The next meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 13 at Riverside Regional Library in Altenburg, Mo. with the program on "Scherrenschnitte" (paper cutting) given by Kathy Schlimpert of Altenburg. Lunch will be at a local restaurant.

Cape County FCE

The third quarterly meeting of the Cape Girardeau County FCE met in regular session at the Extension Center in Jackson with Mary Klaproth, Town and Country FCE, leading the devotion. There were 15 members from the county's six clubs in attendance.

Dortha Strack, Kage FCE, was elected to serve on the council as vice president and Darlene McCain, Town and Country FCE, was elected as corresponding secretary. Linda Sebaugh, being president elect, will serve as president. These officers will be installed in December and serve the council during 2006.

Members who attended the state FCE conference led discussions on current business conducted in Columba recently. Programs for 2006 will include domestic violence, health and the food pyramid, head start, Switzerland and leadership skills. Clubs may add county programs as needed or desired. Training for these programs will be held Nov. 4 in Bollinger County.

District FCE Conference will be held Oct. 27 at the Perkins Restaurant in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

"Today's Farmer" recipe tasting on candy will be held Oct. 5 at the Cape Girardeau County Extension Office. Recipes will be given to Cape County members as soon as they are received.

Membership and dues must be turned into the county officer no later than Sept. 25.

Agnes Wachter presented a quilt top to be finished by the All Clubs Day in March of 2006 and members will conduct a raffle for it.

Three bus tours remain, to the Parker County Covered Bridge Festival in Rockville, Ind., one to Branson, Mo., on Nov. 11 through 13, and one for a day trip to Memphis, Tenn., on Dec. 9.

Kage FCE Club

The Kage FCE Club met Sept. 8 with Barbara Marshall as hostess. Martha Slaten reported on the MAFCE conference attended by her and Barbara Scheffner. The club received a grant for $175 to be used for diabetic identifications. The money was a Joni-Cindy Kottman Memorial Award. Reports on environment and international submitted by the club both recieved first place awards.

Inez Statler and Marshall read letters received from servicemen. The family chicken and dumpling dinner will be held Oct. 17 to coincide with National FCE Week.

Crystal Club members again signed to clean glasses for residents of The Lutheran Home through Oct. 13.

A brief report was given on the FCE Council meeting of Sept. 1. Cape Girardeau County FCE Club members will test recipes for "Today's Farmer" Magazine on Oct. 5. Shirley Palen and Judie Herbst will each prepare desserts from the recipes received.

Slaten also reported on leader training topics chosen for 2006 at a recent meeting.

Linda Farrow, a member of the Mississippi Valley Therapeutic Horsemanship board, reported on the bard ance held on Aug. 27. About 400 people attended the dance.

Herbst gave the program on identity theft and what it can do to a person and some things one can do to avoid theft.

The next meeting will be held Oct. 13 with Joan Meyer as hostess.

New Salem UMW

The New Salem United Methodist Women of Daisy met in the church fellowship hall on Sept. 7 for their annual picnic before holding a meeting. The meeting was opened by Dorothy Hahs, president. There were 10 members present.

There were 31 sick/shut-in calls made during August. Hahs reported on the nursing home visitation during the month. The visitation committee for September are Colleen Lukefahr and Roberta Seabaugh.

Hahs reported on the correspondence for August. A thank-you note was read from Allen and Colleen Lukefahr and Betty Hahs shared correspondence she had received from her mission friends.

The apple butter committee set Sept. 28 to make apple butter. The Vigortone meal is set for Oct. 5. A special offering for the second quarter was taken for our adopted elderly person and third quarter pledges were also designated for this person.

Margie Roberts reported on efforts of the LaCroix United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau to take donations for the victims of the hurricane. Seabaugh presented the program on missions.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Oct. 12 at the home of Betty Henry.
