CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Gertrude Meyr, 86, of Chaffee passed away Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. She was born Dec. 1, 1918, at Shawneetown, daughter of Charles and Dorthea Starzinger Schlimpert. She and Ruben O. Meyr were married Feb. 18, 1939. He preceded her in death July 3, 1988...

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Gertrude Meyr, 86, of Chaffee passed away Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Dec. 1, 1918, at Shawneetown, daughter of Charles and Dorthea Starzinger Schlimpert. She and Ruben O. Meyr were married Feb. 18, 1939. He preceded her in death July 3, 1988.

They lived on the Meyr farm in New Wells until 1952 when the family moved to Chaffee to continue farming.

Mrs. Meyr was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and an active member of the Ladies Aid, serving as secretary since 1967.

She enjoyed gardening, flowers, baking and hand quilting for all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She completed over 600 Lutheran World Relief quilts and designed sports quilts for her grandchildren and their friends.

Gertrude is survived by three brothers, Lawrence Schlimpert (Leona) of St. Louis, Edgar Schlimpert (Melba) of Concordia, Mo., Clarence Schlimpert (Wilma) of Shawneetown; and a sister, Bernice Lorenz of Shawneetown.

Also surviving are five sons, Ryland "Dutch" Meyr (Sharon) of Jackson, Larry Meyr (Judi) of Chaffee, Dennis Meyr (Sandy) of St. Louis, Glen Meyr (Corliss) of Chaffee, Rex Meyr (Patricia) of Jackson; two daughters, Doris Pflughaupt (Roger) of Fort Wayne, Ind., Loretta Ezell (David) of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Lorene Fiedler, and a granddaughter, Adria Meyr.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee after 4 p.m. Thursday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to service time at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Wayne Schwiesow and the Rev. Karl Leeman officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery at Jackson.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Saxony Lutheran High School or donor's choice.
